with Monica Dengo
Monica Dengo will focus her teaching on the value of freehand writing today, on the written mark and its link with body/form/mark-making. Starting from the act of making marks and copying them, everyone will be able to discover through direct experience how Western handwriting contains some common elements with brush writing in the East.
Ca’ Pesaro – International Gallery of Modern Art, Venice Italy
Organized by Correr Library
It seems only fitting to hold a workshop to experience a fusion of these two calligraphic traditions in the city where Marco Polo ventured forth to explore the east. After a two-year hiatus, Monica and Kaz come together again to create this life-altering inspirational workshop.
Monica Dengo and Satsuki Hatsushima will hold another intensive week-long workshop together. Starting from historical introductions, we will arrive at contemporary explorations of writing by hand and mark making in our two cultures. Books will be made entirely by hand with Japanese and European papers
